SIM Students Toastmasters International Speech and Table Topics Contest 2010

On the fateful 9th of Feb 2010, 11 brave toasties braced themselves for the inevitable....

INTERNATIONAL SPEECH AND TABLETOPICS CONTEST 2010!!!!!!!!!!

The evening went smoothly, with a scrumptous dinner and orange cordial.

The table topic of the evening was: Diet with a conscience. Be a vegetarian.
Tough topic that made the boys go crazy due to the idea of losing their MEAT PROTEINS from their plates....
A myrid of answers included: The nature's cycle of the food chai
n, slaughtering cattle humanely, maggie mee and the vegetarian stall at SJI, being a "cow" and consuming supplements!

How would have I gone about doing it? I'd probably elaborate of the various types of vegetarians, saving animals and launch into my usual "fitness gal" mode. =p
The speakers were: Fahmy, Sean, Wee Yang, Crystal and Suwandy! *claps*


Then, came the prepared speeches....
The air was tense and nerve wrecking.

First up was Min Zee. Good try girl! =) Try harder the next time and you shall succeed!

Next was Sean, who spoke about himself, yet...it was neither egotistical nor arrogant. =)

Then came Suwandy, the ever inspirational speaker...a very motivational speech!
Fourth was yours truly...being a nervous wreck, I panicked at first but it went well in the end. *phew*

Fifth was Mike. An interesting speech! I liked how you motivated the people, especially the guys to love their country and be proud of it! (Especially Jesmund! haha)
Last but not least, was Chan Wee Yang! His speech was amusing, inspiring with a whole lot of cheek! Good delivery and impact on the audience!


I save the best for last because it makes everyone explode with excitement and I like exploding. Here are the results:-

The perfect way to start a chapter meeting was with Devesh, our SAA, who asked everyone what their new year's resolutions were. The most common, and yet, interesting answers were - To find true love. So, will 2010 bring love to everyone?

Sorry for the super late update but I have been partying wayyyy too hard for my own good. Anyways, here goes on what happened on our fateful 22nd Dec party.

We started with a buffet of junk and ended with a buffet of junk.

We also had a special language evaluation by Minzee and Nadirah.

24th November 2009 Chapter Meeting

Apologies for the delay of the update for this chapter meeting!
m(_ _)m Been bogged down with exams!

Anyway...there were some minor changes to this chapter meeting. There was no:

However! We had a very special workshop by our VPE (Vice President Education) Chan Wee Yang, CC! He gave us an insightful and educational workshop on how to evaluate.

In this workshop, Wee Yang taught us how to evaluate project speakers on:
- The project criteria
- Using the Good- Bad- Good approach
- Include a summary after your evaluation as the conclusion
- Avoid whitewash evaluations
- Avoid false praise evaluations
- Avoid all criticism evaluations
- the TALL methods
- Be audience- centric

We also had Crystal as our guest speaker doing Project 3 and Sean as our evaluator for Crystal's project. =)
